regular gas is no longer affordable for regular people

Driving my car, I was shocked
when I stopped for gas at my usual Shell station in Burbank, California, on
Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at 9:26 AM. The price had jumped. $6.50 a
gallon?
Prior to Labor Day, about 2
weeks ago, the price was $5.80. That’s an increase of 70 cents a gallon. A 12%
increase, In 2 weeks. Annually, that an inflation rate of 300%!
I calculated that, at the current price of $6.50 a gallon, a full tank would now cost me $80 a week. That’s over $300 a month. $300 of gas a month to go to the supermarket, the pharmacy, Walmart? That’s too costly.
Many regular people in California can no
longer afford a gallon of regular gas at $6.50.
