California,
where regular gas is no
longer
affordable for regular people
As someone who posts about my observations on
life, I was shocked when, driving my car, I stopped for gas at my usual Shell
station in Burbank, California, on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at 9:26 AM.
The price had jumped. $6.50 a gallon?
3 days ago, the price was $6.20.
That’s an increase of 30 cents a gallon. A 4.8%
increase, in 3 days. Annually, that an inflation rate of over 500%!
I calculated that, at the current price of
$6.50 a gallon, a full tank would now cost me $80 a week. That’s over $300 a
month. $300 of gas a month to drive to the supermarket, the pharmacy, Walmart?
That’s too costly.
Many regular people in California can no longer
afford regular gas at the current price.
